Come Find Rest

3 minute guided scripture meditation and reflection: to identify the empty places of our soul, our thirsts and longings, and fill it with the living water of God’s truth.

Scripture: Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”

Meditate and Receive:

My Jesus,

Just reading this invitation is like a soothing balm to my busy mind. You welcome the weary, and those burdened by the rituals of life that bring no peace.

Oh, how I long for your rest.

Teach me your ways that lead to my soul being at rest. I want to live from a place of rest, instead of pushing through work just so I can rest. You were the master at this. I’m mystified by how often you got away alone. I find those moments hard to come by.

But I am here now. Pausing. Looking to you.

Thank you that you never grow weary. You are never burdened by my constant coming to you.

You are strong, yet gentle. You can handle all I bring you. You are wise, yet humble. You invite me to your presence, as a beloved daughter. With you, I have permission to not have it all together. With you I can unload my burdens, and shortcomings.

Why you want to trade my burdens for your rest, I will not understand.

Help me find your presence, release my burdens, and receive your rest.

Reflect

  • Imagine Jesus in the room saying this to you. What posture do you picture Jesus in? Where in the room do you picture him? What is his facial expression toward you? How do you feel in His presence?

  • What burdens are you carrying that Jesus wants you to release to Him?

  • Do you find Jesus trustworthy when it comes to the things dearest to your heart? Why or Why not?
